Commencement

Congratulations to the Class of 2020

Due to the ongoing health crisis, Commencement 2020 ceremonies and events have been rescheduled for December 11-13, 2020. As more information becomes available, it will be released to the Saint Mary's Community.

CLass of 2020 WEBSITE

On May 23rd, we will launch the special Class of 2020 website which will honor and recognize the graduating class of 2020.  This is not a live event and is not meant to replace or re-create Commencement.  The website will feature messages from the president, provost, valedictorian, and more. You'll be able to view all our graduate pages which include name, major, and honors of each graduate, as well as photos and quotes if grads chose to personalize their page. Students and families will also have the opportunity to see their social media posts on the webpage if they use #SMCgrad2020.

The Class of 2020 website will launch on May 23, at midnight.

Commemorative Class paver

Your Saint Mary’s College student is about to graduate this spring! If you are looking for a memorable gift to celebrate your graduate’s remarkable journey and hard-earned diploma, we hope you will consider ordering a personalized stone paver. The message to your loved one will be placed at Saint Mary's Joseph L. Alioto Recreation Center Plaza, where generations of proud family members can visit for many years to come. If you order the stone paver now, your graduate can visit their personalized paver when they attend Commencement weekend December 11-13 or sooner! With a tax-deductible gift of $500, $1000, or $2500, you can give your student a permanent, unforgettable gift in commemoration of their achievements at Saint Mary’s. Watch a short video message from Bailey Minardi ‘16. Her dad surprised her with a paver and she shares what this gift has meant to her. Your graduate can have this memorable gift too.

A message from the Office of Registrar

Dear Graduating Seniors and Graduate and Professional Studies Candidates,

I hope you are staying healthy and safe during this unprecedented time.

I have some exciting news to share with you all. After gathering feedback from the Saint Mary’s campus community, we are pleased to announce a new, in-person Commencement weekend of December 11–13! While the details are still being ironed out, we ask you to please mark this date on your calendar. As more information becomes available, the Registrar’s Office will communicate directly with undergraduate and Graduate and Professional Studies students who are eligible for Commencement. If for some reason you cannot make this date, then we will celebrate your achievements during the May 2021 Commencement Weekend.

We also understand that many of you were looking forward to commemorating the successful completion of your academic journey this month. That’s why on May 23, we will launch the special Class of 2020 website, which will honor and recognize the graduating Class of 2020. Visit the website to see messages from the president, provost, and valedictorian, and acknowledgements from the deans of Saint Mary’s graduate school programs.

The Class of 2020 website will feature a recognition page for each undergraduate and Graduate and Professional Studies student participating in Commencement. The pages will include their name, major, and honors. Students will also be given the opportunity to submit additional information to their page, such as a photo, personal quote, a favorite SMC memory, and links to their social media accounts.

Learn more about Commencement plans

While we understand that this can’t substitute for the energy and joy that a live Commencement ceremony brings for your families, and the experience of crossing the stage to accept your diploma, we didn’t want your achievements to go unnoticed during this important month. Saint Mary’s is tremendously proud of you, and we want to celebrate your academic accomplishments this May and again later, when we can all be together, in December.

Sincerely,
Jou Chau
Assistant Vice Provost and Registrar
