To be considered applicants typically have:

  • Minimum of 23 transferable academic semester units or 34 transferable academic quarter units

  • 2.0 or higher academic GPA

Required Application Materials

  • A completed Common Application with short Essays.

    • $60 USD application fee can be waived for all transfer students. Please contact our Admissions Office for a fee waiver, 925-631-4224 or

  • Final high school transcripts or equivalent documents 

  • Official transcripts of all college work. Official transcripts must be submitted for all colleges or universities attended whether the student completed the term(s) or not

  • A letter of recommendation is highly encouraged, but not required

Transferable Credits

Courses that are transferable to the University of California (UC) system from California community colleges or another accredited college or university are typically acceptable at Saint Mary's. For help in determining which of your courses are transferable, sign up for a Transcript Evaluation or contact one of our transfer admission counselors.

To be applied for advanced standing credit towards graduation, transferrable courses must:

  • Be completed with a letter mark of C- or above (rather than, Pass, Satisfactory, or Credit). D+ or below are calculated into the grade point average.
  • Not be remedial subjects, vocational fields, secondary school mathematics, and non-academic areas are not acceptable for transfer credit.

A maximum of 19 lower-division course credits are transferable to Saint Mary's (64-semester units or 95-quarter units).

Essay/Personal Statement in Common Application

The essay or personal statement is a tool that allows for a holistic review of the applicant by the Admissions Committee. Candidates for admissions may choose one of the prompts provided on the Common Application or write on a topic of their choice. The minimum length of words is 250 and the maximum length of words is 650.
