Welcome to Fall 2021!

Welcome Gaels!

We are so excited to have you on our beautiful, reopened campus to begin the 2021–2022 academic year. Our faculty, staff, and the entire Saint Mary’s College community are committed to supporting you and your academic success with renewed energy and enthusiasm.

To our first-year students, I am delighted to share in the beginning of your academic journey. As you may know, this is also my first semester at SMC, and I look forward to learning alongside you all. I will be living on campus, and I am excited to meet my fellow newest members of the SMC community in the coming weeks. I’m confident that you will feel the same overwhelming support that I have since my arrival.

To our continuing students, I encourage you to make the most of your time back on campus by exploring and engaging with the diverse range of experiences that SMC offers. Each of us must bring our special skills, talents, and knowledge to enliven our campus for the betterment of all. I know that I will learn from your leadership and guidance as we welcome each other back.

As we begin this academic year, I’d like to offer a simple piece of advice given to us by the late American poet, memoirist, and civil rights activist Maya Angelou:

“My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive.”

My hope and wish for this year is that you will thrive in unique and amazing ways. Dive deeper into your studies, continue discovering your passions, and be courageous and brave in your actions. There is nothing to stop you from achieving your defined success. Many student resources and services are available to support your ongoing development every step of the way.

I look forward to meeting you throughout the semester during my regular student office hours, every other Friday starting Sept. 10, from 1 to 2 p.m. in Ferroggiaro 202, and at events, and I’m excited for you to share feedback and ideas. My personal goal is to thrive alongside you as we live, learn, and grow together.

Saint John Baptist de la Salle, pray for us. Live Jesus in our hearts forever!

Go Gaels!
