Biochemistry major Karen Trang, who graduated in May 2014, was honored with three awards: the De La Salle Award given to the undergraduate student with the highest record for scholarship and general excellence, the Linus Pauling Award for her outstanding record as a biochemistry major, and in April 2014 she won a $5000 community service scholarship from the local branch of the American Association of University Women.

Another science major with an outstanding academic record was Elliot Battle, a double major in physics and mathematics.  He was awarded the Arthur S. Campbell award, the highest honor for a School of Science graduate, the Galileo Galilei award from the Department of Physics and Astronomy, and the Outstanding Scholar Award at the Black Graduation Celebration.

The Contra Costa Times profiled "LWM Encounters," the new wildlife iPhone app created by five Saint Mary's math and science majors for the Lindsay Wildlife Museum.
