Department Scholarships

Merit scholarships for incoming first year students are offered by the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science and the Department of Physics and Astronomy.

Brother Dominic Barry Mathematics Scholarships

On Saturday, February 27, 2021, the department will host the annual Brother Dominic Barry Math Problem Solving Competition for students who applied for admission to the College. This year, the competition will be held remotely and will include both a written and an oral exam. The exams are designed to challenge students' problem solving and critical thinking skills while requiring no prerequisite knowledge other than high school math courses. The two highest scorers in the competition will be awarded scholarships worth $13,000 annually, renewable for four years.

Physics Scholarship

Saint Mary's College Department of Physics and Astronomy invites applications for the Physics Scholarships.  Two scholarships are available for each incoming class of first-year students.   Each scholarship is awarded in the amount of $13,000 annually and is renewable for four years. The Physics department scholarship is based on a lab. The lab is designed to test a student’s creative problem-solving skills. It does not test specific knowledge of Physics – we seek students who have the ability to think outside the box and examine problems from multiple perspectives.

Eligible students must:

    Submit a self-nomination form
Score a 600 or better on the math sub-section of the SAT, or a 26 on the math sub-section of the ACT
Visit campus during February to participate in the lab.
