Jan Term 2021 Presents Annual Children’s Show

The Jan Term Children’s Show is a beloved Saint Mary’s tradition. Students in the College’s performing arts program spin magic around children’s stories and fairytales to provide an enchanting experience for young children, their teachers, and parents.

This year’s performance, “Children’s Tales From Around the Globe” is being presented virtually. Beginning on Feb. 19, the production will be available for on-demand viewing—providing the option for viewers to watch the full 45-minute production, or the various five-minute segments, which works especially well for very young attendees.

“Children’s Tales From Around the Globe” focuses on inclusion and identity, and showcases Saint Mary’s College students performing a dance theater production based on cultural stories from their childhood. “Children’s stories will come to life through dance, music, and theatre,” said Catherine Marie Davalos, director of the Saint Mary’s dance program. “Our aim is to share stories from various ethnicities based on the lived experience of the cast and crew, added Davalos." The multicultural performance also serves to provide enrichment experiences for the audience.

“Over the past 20 years, more than 60,000 students have seen our Jan Term children's productions,” said Tara Sundy, Saint Mary’s performing arts coordinator and events manager. “Despite Covid-19, we are delighted to have found a way to continue this tradition by offering the Jan Term Children's Show via an on-demand film, which can reach an even larger audience throughout the nation and the world."

Teachers, schools, and other youth organizations can book the virtual field trip or find out more about special deals and packages by sending an email to: tms8@stmarys-ca.edu. Saint Mary’s faculty, students, staff, and friends are also encouraged to attend.
