Meet the Staff



 Susie Miller Reid, Director

M. Susan “Susie” Reid, MA, Linguistics is the Director of the Center for International Programs at Saint Mary’s College of California and oversees the international activities related to Study Abroad and International Student Services for the campus.  Susie has been in the field of international education for over 30 years, having served as Director at both UC Davis and UC Santa Cruz campuses for 20 years and as a teacher and coordinator at Kuwait University for 5 years.  She has lived in Brazil and Kuwait and has traveled to over 25 countries abroad visiting all continents, except Australia.  Furthermore, she has given over 25 presentations at professional conferences and educational institutions and served as the Chair of the Program Administration section of TESOL and the ATESL Chair for NAFSA.  Finally, she has trained teachers in Egypt and has developed and directed a number of professional development programs for government officials, professionals and students abroad.

 Ashley Machado, Assistant Director & International Student Advisor

Ashley Machado is the Assistant Director and the International Student Advisor for the Center for International Programs.  As an advocate for international student success, Ashley joined Saint Mary's College in September 2017 with a Master’s in International Education Management from the Middlebury Institute of International Studies.  She has been teaching and advising international students since 2011 and has experience living, teaching, interning and volunteering abroad in places like Chile, Australia, Costa Rica and El Salvador.  A native of the Bay Area, Ashley is passionate about the environment and social justice.  She has traveled to over 15 countries and hopes to step foot on all seven continents.  Ashley taught herself how to knit and enjoys reading, running and yoga.

Vanessa Marquez, Administrative Assistant

Vanessa Marquez is the Administrative Assistant for the Center for International Programs at Saint Mary's College, and aides in Study Abroad, International Student affairs, and Jan Term Travel Courses. As an Alumna of SMC, she is no stranger to the Lasallian traditions embedded into the College's mission. Vanessa received her Bachelor of Arts in Sociology, and is a great proponent of social justice and intercultural dialogue. As an Undergraduate, Vanessa got her first taste of international education when studying abroad at Queen Mary University of London.  The thing she valued most about her time abroad was her proximity to a variety of cultures and new cuisines. She has visited over 11 countries and hopes to travel to a new country every year! In her spare time, Vanessa enjoys reading, writing, skateboarding, and taking long walks.
